Brauner Valvet

The idea that tube powered equipment is usually “warm”, “saturated”, “fat”, is an absurd one, mostly derived from the fact that tubes glow. Unlike this common misconception, a thermionic valve is quite linear in its normal operating range. Most of the “sound” comes from the inclusion of transformers in the signal path. Brauner is a relatively new company that specializes in creating the finest mics known. While we disagree when a device that is used to capture music is categorized as being “the best”, Brauner creates very fine microphones indeed. So fine, that sometimes the mic might reveal flaws in the instrument being captured, whether it is a voice or a guitar. Majestic on acoustics, sometimes outside the bass drum, as a mono room, and if the voice is right for it, vocals.
