The Amek Dual Compressor-Limiter is one tricky piece of gear. High quality construction along with several features make it interesting, but not the first thing you would reach for. Has a unique ambience switch that outputs only the difference between the compressed and uncompressed signal. The more the compression or the output gain, the more signal that is present on the output. In practice, you can use it to lower the background noise of a signal. Like for example, if you have a vocal recording where the vocalist used speakers to monitor instead of headphones (yes, this is a valid method of recording, and actually quite better than the other one), you can use the ambience setting to reduce the level of leakage picked up by the mic. Other than that, the unit works best with low ratios and moderate compression. Kinda dark, slow sounding.
